Eco Friendly Essentials for every Foodie
It's 2020, we're all stepping up to do our bit for the environment and since food takes up a big part of our lives, here's some essentials to get you started on making a difference.
Cotton Produce Bags
This essential is an all-rounder! Firstly it's cost effective - depending on where you purchase them from* they're fairly cheap, averaging around £2/£3 a bag. Secondly they help keep things tidy - you only need 2-4 of these bags for your weekly shop so they can easily be hung in one place or folded into your bag or glove-box. Links are attached to images:
Stainless Steel or Glass Straws
Non-plastic straws have been taking over restaurants for a while now, but if you're not a fan of the single use paper straws that plastic straws have been replaced with, then metal or glass is a great alternative! I personally prefer glass, I think they look and feel a little nicer, but which ever option you go for should come with a straw cleaner and a case so you can take it wherever you go - and if that doesn't convince you then remember that drinking through a straw could save a lot of staining on your teeth.
Reusable Cup
I'd say the majority of people who regularly drink coffee either already have one of these or have had their eye on purchasing one - so here's why you should; a paper cup takes up to 20 years to decompose, and the paper coffee cups at most coffee shops cannot be recycled. A statistic from 2018 shows that more than 99.75% of disposable cups don't get recycled. You can pick one up from your local Starbucks pretty cheap but if you'd like something a little more personal then look online for something a little pricier.
Reusable Food Bags
This is such a simple swap, and there's so many perks! There's so many different colours and materials to choose from, they're child friendly, and easy to clean.
*please remember that if you purchase any Eco friendly products online, then it may be a good idea to check where the product is coming from. If you live in the UK then it would be more efficient to order from a store that's based in the UK - this could help with air pollution and unnecessary packaging. Good luck with all of your Eco friendly endeavours!
